Does Primer Help Minimize Pores?
Yes, using a primer helps to minimize your pores. Unfortunately, nothing can completely magick away those blasted pores. Heck, we can’t even shrink them. However, we can at least minimize their appearance.
Primers also help to combat shine, especially if you suffer from oily skin like I do! Most primers prolong the appearance of your makeup and even nourish your skin at the same time. By smoothing pores, lines, and wrinkles, primers transform your face into a smooth canvas upon which to paint your cosmetic art!
How Can I Cover-up Enlarged Pores? (Step by Step)
Here are some steps you can follow to apply primer:
1) Clean your face.
Choose your favorite facial cleanser and gently wash and pat dry your face. This will help remove oil, dead skin, and other debris on your skin prior to primer application. This first step is one of the most important because if you don’t clean your skin, debris and oil can destroy the smooth surface you’re trying to make.
Next, apply your favorite moisturizer. Not only will this keep your skin hydrated, but moisturizing also helps keep the application even. It will also keep your powder from looking dry and cracked. Allow the moisturizer to absorb for at least a minute. Gently remove any excess.
3) Prime and go.
Pump a small amount of your chosen primer onto your fingers, a pad, or a brush and gently apply it in circles on your face. Smooth as needed and repeat!
5 Mistakes You Should Avoid When Applying Makeup on Large Pores
No one is perfect, and everyone makes mistakes. In the desire to make ourselves look the best, we sometimes can fall prey to making mistakes when applying makeup on large pores. Here are some of them, and how you can avoid them.
1) Applying too much makeup.
Applying too much makeup is never a good idea. Not only can it make your face look dull, unnatural, and flat, it is also unhealthy for your skin. Your pores can clog, and if oil gets trapped in them, then you risk aggravating the skin. This, in turn, can cause irritation, redness, and acne.
To avoid this, apply just enough to cover your skin. Apply as many layers as necessary to create a smooth, vibrant, and pretty look.
2) Not washing your skin.
In general, when beginning your makeup routine, you should always wash your face first. This removes debris, dirt, pollution, and other contaminants that can clog your face, irritate your skin, and disrupt the makeup application process.
3) Choosing the wrong makeup.
Any makeup enthusiast knows that not all cosmetics are created equally. You should always try to align your skin type and tone with the makeup you choose. For instance, if you have oily skin, find makeup that’s oil-free and formulated for oily skin. Otherwise, the wrong makeup might negatively impact your skin and have the opposite effect. Instead of looking and feeling beautiful, your skin might break out in acne, blotches, or other conditions.
4) Choosing harmful ingredients.
For the most part, it’s easy to avoid harmful preservatives in cosmetics such as parabens, sulfates, and fragrances. Before purchasing any primer for large pores, check the ingredient list. Many manufacturers specifically call out any harmful ingredients they don’t carry. I highly recommend conducting research on any cosmetics you buy so you can ensure they’re safe for you to use!
5) Not moisturizing.
I highly recommend moisturizing prior to applying any cosmetics to large pores. Moisturizers coat and hydrate your skin while still keeping makeup application smooth. Otherwise, you run the risk of your skin looking dry, cracked, dull, and tired. Choose an oil-free moisturizer to use after washing your face for best results!
In this article, I shared my favorite primer for large pores. I hate my large pores. They sometimes make me feel less confident in my beauty when I go through my beauty routine. However, since discovering primers, I can’t tell you how much they have helped me! I can’t live without my primers, and I know once you try one, you won’t be able to either!
